Week 3 - Rapid & Deep Pulses Flashcards
What are the rapid pulses?
Rapid, Stirred, Slippery
What are the slow pulses?
Slow, Moderate, Rough
Describe a Rapid Pulse
> 90bpm 4 beats per breath
Describe a Stirred Pulse
Pulse jumps like a bean, slippery, rapid, forceful, Counterflow pulse, Felt primarily in the guan position, Spinning quality, 90-110 bpm
Describe a Slippery Pulse
Smooth, feeling of roundness, Quality of rapidity, oily quality, Often has substance - fullness, Feels fast although isn’t
Describe a Uber Rapid Pulse
> 7 beats / breath, >120 bpm
Deep pulses generally are described as _________
Clearly felt at the deep level w/ heavy pressing
Describe a Deep Pulse
Not clear w/ light pressing, Clear w/ heavy pressure
felt at or near the sinew & bone, Winter pulse
Describe a Hidden Pulse
Can only be felt by presing hard to the bone, “in the bone”
Describe a Confined Pulse
Replete, large, wiry, long w/ heavy pressure, Large, forceful, hard, long
What pathologies are associated with a Rapid Pulse
Heat pattern, Excess heat - forceful
Vacuity heat - forceless
What pathologies are associated with a Stirred Pulse
Pain pattern, palpitation pattern
Trauma, fear, injury, extreme stagnation
-blood stasis, pain
What pathologies are associated with a Slippery Pulse
Damp, repletion heat, food accumulation, Phlegm, Pregnancy - excess blood, abundance
What pathologies are associated with a Uber Rapid Pulse
Excess / vacuity heat, HT yang vacuity - palpitations - 180-220 bpm
What pathologies are associated with a Deep Pulse
Interior pattern, Yang vacuity - vacuity cold forceless, Qi vacuity, Cold - interior excess - forceful
