Childs SaO2 expected range
95%-100%
Acceptable level: 91%-100%
Results less than 91% require intervention
Nebulized aerosol therapy
Breaks up meds into minute particles then dispersed through respiratory track
For respiratory conditions
Treatment can take 10-15 min
Metered dose inhaler dry power inhaler instructions.
Shake inhaler 5-6 times
Attach spacer
Hold inhaler with thumb near the mouth piece (index and middle fingers at top)
Take a deep breath, exhale
Tilt head back and while pressing inhaler take deep breath for 3-5 seconds
Hold breath for 5-10 seconds
MDI client instructions
clean MDI and spacer after each use
Have child rinse out mouth and expectorate
Chest physiotherapy indication
Thick secretions to clear an airway
Chest physiotherapy contraindication
Decreased cardiac reserves
Pulmonary embolism
Increased intracranial pressure
Tonsillitis
Viral or bacterial infection causing swelling of lymph tissue of nasal or oral pharynx
Difficulty swallowing and breathing.
Tonsillitis interventions
Culture, Rest, Warm fluids , gargle warm salt water (viral)
Administer antibiotics (bacterial)
Tonsillectomy post-op nursing actions
Assess airway and vital signs
Administer liquid analgesics and tetracaine lollipops
Provide an ice collar
Discourage coughing or blowing nose to protect surgical site, and avoid straws
notify provider is bright red bleeding occurs
Hemorrhage client education: following tonsillectomy
Report
- frequent swallowing
- constant clearing of the throat
- restless
- bright red emesis
- tachycardia
- pallor
