Germ cell tumors

A

Seminomatous
1. seminoma (50%): can be large mass, tunica albuginea intact, white, tan, usually no necrosis/hemorrhage. Sheets of uniform cells separated by fibrous tissue. lymphocytes seen
Non seminomatous
2. embryonic carcinoma: invades tunica albuginea early. Cut surface has necrosis/hemorrhage
3. yolk sac tumor: common in children under 3yo. Microcytic. Schiller duval bodies. (like a target)
4. choriocarcinoma: hemorrhage, necrosis. See syncytiotrophoblast and cytotrophoblast
5. teratoma: mature teratomas second most common testicular tumor in young children.
