WEEK 4 Flashcards
define a projectile
any object that it projected into the air
what are the 3 components of projectile motion
1) a projectile can travel horizontally or vertically through the air
2) gravity only influences the vertical component of the projectile
3) vertical and horizontal components of a projectile act independently of each other
what influences projectile motion and describe it
1) air resistance
- influences horizontal motion
- influences vertical motion
2) gravity:
- acceleration from gravity= 9.81metres per second
- constantly accelerates bodies in vertical direction towards the surface of the earth.
define an upward projectile
- velocity is decreasing during upward flight
- velocity is increasing during downward flight
- vertical kinematics upward and downward
hints for vertical projectile(x2)
- upward flight phase final velocity = 0
- downwards phase intitial vertical vellcity= 0
define direct performance
directly dictated by the start of the flight
define the influence of initial velocity
fixed projection angle and height
define influence of release height
fixed velocity and projection angle
what is the optimum projection angle for horizontal displacement
1) 0 relative projection height > optimal angle= 45 degrees
2) positive relative projection height > optimum angle less than 45 degrees
