Week 4 Flashcards
Define qualitative research
Qualitative research incorporates the recording, interpreting, and analyzing of non numeric data with an attempt to uncover the deeper meanings of human experiences and behaviors.
To understand patterns of health behaviors, describe lived experiences, develop behavioral theories, explore healthcare needs, and design intervention
The qualitative method of inquiry examines the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of decision making, rather than the ‘when,’ ‘what,’ and ‘where.’
Understanding the richness and complexity of human behavior is the crux of qualitative research.
What is this an example of?
- The purpose statement specifies the broad focus of the study, identifies the approach, and provides direction for the overall goal of the study.
- Qualitative research does not require a-priori hypothesis
Give examples of qualitative questions?
Qualitative questions are exploratory and are open-ended
What are some strategies used in Data Collection in Qualitative Research?
Explain focus group discussions vs individual interviews
What are the steps of data analysis in qualitative research?
What type of research is this?
Mixed methods’ is a research approach whereby researchers collect and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data within the same study.
What are the benefits of mixed methods research?
Using both qualitative and quantitative methods allowing researchers to explore diverse perspectives and uncover relationships that exist between the intricate layers of our multifaceted research questions.
Purposeful data integration enables researchers to seek a more panoramic view of their research landscape, viewing phenomena from different viewpoints and through diverse research lenses.
Why choose mixed methods research?
What are the strengths of mixed methods research?
Give an example of a mixed methods approach to an ACL injury
What are the challenges of mixed methods research?
List the type of mixed methods research
Explain explanatory sequential and exploratory sequential approaches of mixed methods research
Explain parallel and nested approaches of mixed methods research
