Week 3 (Shoulder Girdle) Flashcards
5 Muscles
Trapezius Origin
External Occipital Protuberance, Medial portion of Superior nuchal line, ligamentum nuchae, spinous process processes of C7 - T12
Trapezius Insertion
Lateral 1/3rd of clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula.
Trapezius Actions (9)
Bilaterally:
-Extend the head/neck
Unilaterally:
-Laterally flex head/neck to same side
-Rotate head/neck to OPPOSITE side
-Elevate scapulothoracic joint
-Upwardly rotate S/T Joint
Middle Fibers:
-Adduct the scapulothoracic joint
-Stabilize the scapula
Lower Fibers:
-Downwardly rotate scapula
-Depress scapula
Rhomboids Origin
Spinous processes of C7-T5
Rhomboid Insertion
Medial border of scapula, from across from spine to inferior angle
Rhomboid Actions (3)
-Elevate scapula (S/T joint)
-Adduct scapula
-Downwardly rotate scapula
Levater Scapula Origin
Transverse processes of C1-C4
Levater Scapula Insertion
Medial border of scapula, from just above scapular spine to superior portion.
Levater Scapula Actions (5)
-Bilaterally extend head/neck
-Laterally flex head/neck to same side
-Rotate head/neck to SAME side
-Elevate scapula
-Downwardly rotate scapula (S/T joint)
Serratus Anterior Origin
External surfaces of first 8 to 9 ribs
Serratus Anterior Insertion
Anterior surface of medial border of scapula (under the scapula)
Serratus Anterior Actions (5)
-Abduct the scapula (S/T joint)
-Upwardly rotate the scapula
-Depress the scapula
-Hold the medial border of the scapula to the rib cage
-W scapula fixed: elevate the thorax during forced inhalation
