week 3 PTTR (validity and reliability) Flashcards
what is one way to evaluate if a new measure is good?
test the consistency of the relationship between the new measure and previous measures
you can do this by computing a correlation or scatter graphs
what is concurrent validity?
demonstrating that the scores
obtained from the new measurement technique are directly related to the scores obtained
from another, better-established procedure for measuring the same variable
what is construct validity?
demonstrating that the measurement of the variable behaves in the same way as the variable itself
what is convergent and divergent validity?
convergent: two different measures for the same costruct produce the same scores
divergent: measurements of two distinct constructs produce different scores
what is it called when different versions of the intstrument to test and rest to demonstrate reliability?
parralel forms reliability
how may you test for internal consistency?
by using split half reliability
what are ceiling and floor effects?
A ceiling effect is the clustering of scores at the high end of a measurement scale,
allowing little or no possibility of increases in value.
A floor effect is the clustering of scores at the low end of a measurement scale,
allowing little or no possibility of decreases in value
what is an artefact in experiments?
an external feature that may influence or distort the measurements
