Q

Strength plan for a recent muscle strain:

A
  • Progressive overload optimises tissue healing
  • All muscles/soft tissues heal better w/ some load
  • Day 1-3 they should be loading tissues

Q

Strength plan for post-surgery meniscectomy:

A
  • No tissue that needs repairing, faster healing
  • 1-3 wks: ROM/atrophy/Iso.
  • 2-3 wks: Strengthening functionality > hypertrophy
  • 6-8 wks: Can still be working on hypertrophy

Q

Strength plan for post-surgery repair:

A

3-6 month recovery

- Goal: improve ROM, atrophy getting rid of fluid

Q

Strength plan for Bankart repair:

A

(Dislocation surgery/ tear anterior inferior capsule, suture capsule, + muscle)
- 1-2 wks: Gentle iso.’s in approp. range (avoiding arm shying too far from body)
- 4 wks: Working muscle harder>will have a hard time hurting it.
Sutures in capsule can take a while to heal so still avoiding arm shying away
12 wks: full ROM, strength adequate

Q

Strength plan for overuse injury:

A
  • Strengthening can exacerbate the pain, but is needed to fix the issue.
  • Strength. w/o pain
  • High v low intensity / prog. overload

Q

Strength plan for weakness in neuro conditions Gullain-Barre:

A
  • Rare, motor nerves demyelinate, + muscles become weak/paralysed
  • If treated, goes away + gain 100% strength in 12 months.
  • Goal: Reduction of atrophy

Q

Strength plan for weakness in neuro conditions motor neuron disease:

A
  • Progressive weakening of muscles

- Goal: can’t change neural drive but we want to maintain as much hypertrophy of muscle + avoid atrophy

Q

Strength plan for weakness in neuro conditions STROKE:

A
  • Neurons in brain

- Goal: trying to improve neuroplasticity; dosage (repetition) becomes a key factor, don’t need high intensity
