- Psychology of killing (the closer we are to someone the harder it is to shoot so in medicine if we have experience of a situation the more empathetic we can be)

What are the culutral influences on human behaviours (2)?
Gender
Ethnicity
Define stereotyping
Set ideas about the characterisitcs of certain people/ groups
What is unconscious bias?
Automatic assumptions we make about people without realising it
What is hidden culture?
If not at the recieving end of a particular stigma we don’t tend to believe in it
What is attribution bias?
Attribute our failings to environmental factors & failings of others to entrenched personality factors
What is hidden curriculum?
Something comes across to pupils which may never be spoken
What are the 4 external factors that help us deal with out feelings?
Adopting a role —> don’t need to think & feel comfortable
Submit to authority —> removes responsibly
Hiding behind bureaucracy —> provides clear processes that are fairly applies BUT don’t need to think of individuals
Blindness to prejudice —> think that everyone has the same advantages we have
What is the sick role obligations and rights?

NOW consider: Working whilst ill, smoking–> lung ca, chronic condition, people self managing
What is the chornic care model
Return life to as normal as possible
Empowerment of the patient and HCP work in partnership to identify goals

- Offer chaperone
- Explain reasons for examination
- Don’t enagage in behaviour that could lead patients on
- Trust your cut
- Be polite & clear
- Awareness of factors that make it harder to speak up
- Seek help
