Week 3 Flashcards
What are the general precautions for using an ECG
machine is grounded, patient is grounded, electrically ‘quite’ area, patient not stressed, electrodes equidistant and not painful, and good electrical contact
What does an ECG not tell us?
does not tell us anything about the mechanical function of the heart
CPCR stands for?
cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation
what is cardiopulmonary arrest?
the sudden cessation of spontaneous and effective ventilation ans systemic perfusion
What does CPCR do?
provides adequate ventilatory and circulatory support until spontaneous function returns
What are the responsibilities and tasks with CPCR?
airway management- establish airway and ventilate
Cardiovascular management- compress chest
venous access- place IV lines and start IV fluids
what is asystole?
total cardiac standstill
what is ventricular fibrillation?
lack of effective pump
Pre-oxygenation is achieved by giving how much oxygen?
4-6 L/min as long as possible
When using an E-collar for oxygen delivery what 3 things do you need to remember?
make sure to warm, humidify the oxygen and lube the eyes
What are the three types of ventilation?
controlled, assisted, and positive end expiratory pressure
When weaning a patient off of oxygen how much do you decrease?
by 10% increments
