Medial epicondyle
Bony features of the radius and ulna
Head
Neck
Tuberosity for biceps

Coronoid process
Tuberosity for brachialis
Ligaments around the elbow
Lateral collateral ligament
Medial collateral ligament
Annular ligament
Lateral collateral ligament
Prevents extreme forearm adduction
Medial collateral ligament
Prevents extreme forearm abduction
Annular ligament
Holds the head of the radius in place
How do collateral ligaments of any joint stop movement?
The ligaments tighten when the joint is pushed too far in either direction.

What is the anatomical snuffbox
The hollow space behind the thumb between the tendons of the hand
- Extensor pollicis longus (EPL), extensor pollicis brevis (EPB), abductor pollicis longus (APL)
Intrinsic hand muscles
Small muscles that originate in the wrist and hand that control fine motor movements. Eg. thenar muscles
Extrinsic hand muscles
Muscles that originate in the elbow or forearm, but control gross movement in the wrist and hand. Eg. abductor pollicis longus
Thenar eminence
Muscles towards the thumb (pollicis)
Hypothenar eminence
Muscles at the base of the little finger (minimis)
Muscles of the forearm
Brachialis
Brachioradialis
Pronator teres
Pronator quadratus
Flexor muscles of the hand
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
Flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
Flexor retinaculum (FR)
Flexor pollicis longus (FPL)
Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) + Flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
Extensor muscles of the hand
Extensor carpi radialis (ECR)
Extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU)
Extensor digiti minimi (EDM)
Extensor digitorum (ED)
Brachialis
Lower part of the upper arm. Flexes the elbow
Brachioradialis
Radial side of the forearm. Flexes the elbow
Pronator teres
Anterior forearm. Pronates the forearm and palm
Pronator quadratus
Deep, interior forearm. Pronates the forearm and palm
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
Anterior forearm. Flexes and abducts the wrist
Extensor carpi radialis (ECR)
Posterior forearm. Extends and abducts the wrist
Flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
Anterior forearm. Flexes and adducts the wrist
Extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU)
Posterior forearm. Extends and adducts the wrist
Flexor retinaculum (FR)
Covers the palmar carpal bones.
Flexor pollicis longus (FPL)
Anterior forearm. Flexes the thumb
Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
Deep medial forearm. Flexes the fingers
Flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
Superficial forearm. Flexes the fingers
Extensor digiti minimi (EDM)
Posterior forearm. Extends the wrist and little finger
Extensor digitorum (ED)
Posterior forearm. Extends the fingers
