week 3 Flashcards
what is the purpose of the project planning phase
establishing….
- buisness requirements
- costs
- schedules
- resources plan
- delivery dates
Basic processes of project planning
- scope planning
- preparing work breakdown structure
- project schedule development
- resource planning
- budget planning
- procurement planning
- risk management
- quality planning
- communication planning
what does a scope statement include
- project name
- project charter
- owner, sponsor etc.
- problem statement
- project goals
- requirements
- deliverables
- exclusions
- milestones
- cost estimates
the project schedule
includes: sequence of activities, duration planned for each activity
created: AFTER scope planning, BEFORE resource planning
types of predecessors
external: outside the project
discretionary: matter of preference
mandatory: can’t do following task until predecessor is done (eg. invitations must be done before mailed)
LEADS vs LAGS
LAG: one task must wait in relation to another task
LEAD: Task must start before the predecessor is done
Types of slacks
total slack: allowable delay without delaying project completion
free slack: allowable delay without affecting start of following activity
safety slack: allowable delay of activity if all predecessors finish as late as possible
steps to apply critical path
- list activities
- identify dependencies
- create network diagram
- task duration estimation
- critical path calculation
- float calculation
pros and cons of critical path
PRO: improve future planning, improve resource management
CON: estimating end date of activity can be difficult, networks can be complex
