Week 3 Flashcards
1
Q
Why test?
A
- strengths and weaknesses
- Training modality, specificity and efficiency evaluation
- Quality assurance - technical error of measurement
- Validation
- Re-assurance
- injury rehabilitation
- perfomance enhancement
- motivation
- talent identification
2
Q
Test:
A
- an instrument or procedure that measures attributes or properties of an individual or object
- Test categorised by type and sub types
- knowledge
- fitness skills
- motor skills
- attributes and feelings related to physical activity
3
Q
Protocol:
A
- the specifics of the procedures for carrying out the test for data collection
- A type of test can have a number of protocols to choose from
4
Q
Measurement (testing):
A
- the process of collection of information or data on the attribute of interest
- Results are the basis for decisions
5
Q
2 widely used types of standards of comparing data:
A
- Norm referenced standards (norm based referencing)
- criterion referenced standards (criterion based referencing)
6
Q
Criterion referenced standards
A
Used to determine the level or degree of
- achievement
- mastery
- competency
Pre-determined (pass/fail)
7
Q
Norm-referenced standards
A
Compares the individual test results (scores) to those of members of a well defined group.
- group data -> norms averages
- Classification using table as poor, average and above average on a particular test is often NORM rather than criterion
8
Q
Sources of error include:
A
- lack of objectivity -> lack of agreement between testers
- Lack of consistent performance by subjects
- Failure to follow standardised testing procedures
- Systematic error due to reading of measurement scales
9
Q
Methods for maximising reliability
A
- Heterogeneous sample (statistics)
- Subjects well motivated
- Subjects prepared physically / psychologically
- Test must discriminate
- A number of trials
- Favourable organisation and environment
- Trained competent testers
10
Q
What does a LACK of association between test result and performance tell us?
A
- Attribute tested is not relevant to the sport
OR - Sport requires a threshold level in attribute
- Above this there is no/little additional performance benefit
OR
- Above this there is no/little additional performance benefit
- Assessment method is not sensitive enough
