What is measles?
A
- Viral
- Spread by droplets from an infected person’s sneeze or cough
- Symptoms: red skin rash, fever
- can be fatal, can lead to lung infection or brain infection.
- Can be vaccinated against it

What is HIV?
A
- Human immunodeficiency virus
- Caused by the exchange of bodily fluids (sharing needles)
- Symptoms: flu-like symptoms for a few weeks, usually there are no more symptoms for several years. During this time, HIV can be controlled using antiretroviral drugs. (Stops the virus from replicating inside the body).
- The virus attacks the immune cells
- If the immune system is badly damaged, it can’t cpe with other infections. At a late stage HIV is known as AIDS.

What is tobacco mosaic virus?
A
- Affects plants
- Causes a mosaic pattern on the leaves of the plant, leaves may become discoloured
- Discolouration means that the plant can’t carry out photosynthesis. (Affects growth)

What is Rose black spots?
A
- Fungal
- Cause purple or black spots on the leaves
- Leaves turn yellow and drop off
- Photosynthesis can’t happen very well
- Spreads by water or air
- Fungicide can be used or stripping the plant from the affected leaves

What is malaria?
A
- Protist
- Part of the protist’s life cycle happens inside the mosquito
- The mosquito is a vector
- Every time the mosquito feeds on another animal it infects it by inserting the protist into the animal’s blood vessels
- Causes fever, can be fatal
- Prevention: Stopping the mosquitoes from breeding, use insecticide and mosquito nets.
