Week 27 - Drum Augmentation, Track Freeze Details Flashcards
What 2 main categories of issues does drum sample augmentation seek to fix?
Recording Issues:
Poor mic placement + choice
Poor drum choice
Recording errors
Playing Issues:
Playing too soft
Playing too inconsistently
Playing too many takes and the drums change tuning
What are triggers?
Triggers are a very specific and short audio event that is extracted from the original audio
What are trigger’s audio used for?
Accurately placing MIDI notes and drum samples
Accurately opening gates
Adding additional sound to your drums when mixing
What happens when we freeze tracks, and what are some exceptions to the “freeze”?
Source material on the track is replaced with audio that has been processed by all of the plug-ins on the track (what you hear is what you’ll get)
Muted clips are not rendered
Cannot edit audio clips when frozen
When frozen, all plugins are made inactive, depending on the insert point
The frozen audio will include any automation except volume
Sends, pan, mute and volume can still be changed
What are some benefits to track freezing?
Frees up DSP or CPU usage
Great for freezing aux tracks to keep your track count down when recording
Great for exchanging sessions with system that doesn’t have the same plugs
