When does the acquisition of digital evidence begin?
When information and/or physical items are collected or stored for examination purposes.
What are data objects?
Objects or information of potential probative value that are associated with physical items. Data objects may occur in different formats without altering the original information.
What is Digital evidence?
Information of probative value stored or transmitted in a digital form.
What are Physical items?
Items on which data objects or information may be stored and/or through which data objects are transferred.
What is Original digital evidence?
Physical items and the data objects associated with such items at the time of acquisition or seizure.
What is Duplicate Digital Evidence?
An accurate digital reproduction of all data objects contained on an original physical item. This is often referred to as an image.
What is a Copy?
An accurate reproduction of information contained on an original physcial item, independent of the original physical item.
What principle/procedure does creating images reinforce?
Ensuring that digital evidence is collected, preserved, examined, or transferred in a manner safeguarding the accuracy and reliability of the evidence.
What are Standard Opertaing Procedures (SOPs)?
Documented quality-control guidelines that must be supported by proper case rrecords and use broadly accepted procedures, equipment, and materials.
