Week 2: Pro Taper Gold and Apex Locators Flashcards
What the basics of ProTaper gold
- Always ensure the file is rotating before introducing it into the canal
- Shaping files should be used in a brushing motion
- Do not force the files into the canal
- Do not use for more than 3 passes without cleaning debris from the files and irrigating the canal
- Always create a glide path first using hand files
On what stroke do ProTaper gold cut?
They cut on the out stroke
When do you need to engage the canal walls when using ProTaper gold?
When light resistance is felt then engage the canal wall and brush out
What do we need to do after 3 passes of the ProTaper gold
Need to clean debris from the file and irrigating the canal
Before using the ProTaper golds what must we create?
A glide path using hand files
List the instrumentation protocol with ProTaper gold
- Access into the pulp chamber, remove all chamber roof
- Scout coronal part of canal with size 10 hand file
- Create a glide path in straight part of the canal to size 15 hand file
- Create a coronal flare with SX file
- Scout apical part of canal with size 10 handfile
- Determine working length
- Create glide paths up to 15 to fill work length
- Use S1 and S2 in a brushing motion to length
- Take F1 into canal with single pass, light apical pressure, multiple passes until WL reached
What must you do between each pass
IRRIGATE
Which files do we use when scouting the canal and creating a coronal guide path
10 K files
15 K files
Use in a watch winding motion
What are we working to when creating coronal glide path
Until light resistance
Which files do we use to create a coronal flare?
SX in a brushing motion
What are we working to when creating a coronal flare
Distance reached by size 15 k file
Which files do we use when we are establishing the working length
10 K files in a watch winding function
When creating the apical glide path which files do we use?
15 K files
What do we work to when creating an apical glide path
Full working length
Which files do we need to use when coronal shape
