Week 2: Pitot Static Systems Testing Flashcards
What happens if the altitude rate changes faster than the limit of the installed instrument?
Damaged
Pitot pressure should be ________ static pressure
Greater than or equal to
What should you never do to a VSI?
Never exceed the rate of change
Once testing is all done to what condition must you return the aircraft?
Flying condition
What does the pitot system leak test check?
Integrity of pitot probes, lines, instruments
What type of pressure are you putting into the pitot probe?
Positive pressure
Where would you find the allowable leak rate?
Maintenance Manual
For the STATIC testing procedure, the allowable leak depends on what?
Pressurized or non pressurized
For an unpressurized test, what are the 2 ways?
- Put a static differential pressure of 1inHg
2. Alt. reading must be 1000ft above aircraft elevation at time of test
For a pressurized test, at what altitude without pitot could damage the ASI and what should you do to fix it?
above 3500ft open crossbleed valve to equalize pressure
If a leak test fails on an unpressurized aircraft, input a positive pressure till what?
A 500ft decrease on indication
If you apply soap to a static port and its bubbling what do you have?
A leak (positive pressure)
What does a Barometric Scale Error test?
The difference in altitude changes in barometric setting (kollsman) tested at a constant pressure
In the barometric scale error, what is the tolerance for the recorded error?
Must be within 25ft
How do you perform a Scale error test and what is it for?
Set to 29.92inHg and it tests the difference between the master altimeter and the aircraft altimeter
What is the purpose of the Friction test?
Tests if the mechanism friction is excessive (tap the sides)
This test checks to see if the altimeter moves the same way up and down (aneroid elasticity)
Hysterisis
How do you perform a case leak?
Apply a vacuum pressure at 18000ft and hold for 1min
This test checks to see if the altitude returns to where you, must not be recorded more than 5min after the hysterisis test and has a tolerance of 30ft
After Effect
What does RVSM stand for?
Reduced Vertical Separation Minimums
