What is social location?
Location on a social map related to variables including race, gender, class, age etc.
What is biological weathering?
physiological effects of racism and discrimination on the body
What is resuscitation glorification?
the action or process of reviving someone from unconsciousness or apparent death
What is palliative care?
offers support to patients to live as actively as possible until death
When is palliative care normally offered to a family?
When the family is going through bereavement or needs help coping with illness
What are myths of palliative care?
- palliative care is only for those actively dying
- it means you have given up
What is the difference between withholding treatment and withdrawing treatment?
Withholding:
not initiating treatment that is available
Withdrawing:
stopping treatment that has been initiated previously
How can you be eligible for MAID? (Medical Assistance in Dying)
- be at least 18
- be eligible for health services
- have an immediate medical condition
- make voluntary request and give informed consent to receive MAID
What are some arguments FOR maid?
- preventing intolerable suffering
- upholding the quality of life
- respect for the principle of autonomy
What are some arguments AGAINST maid?
- vulnerable population
- lack of sufficient resources to facilitate autonomous choice
