What is used to diagnose MI?
12 lead ECG- disruption of normal electrical signals caused by ion movement
Serum troponin- troponin released due to disruption of cell structure
+ potentially other tests to rule other things out
What are some differential diagnoses for chest pain?
Acute coronary syndrome
Pericarditis
Plueral inflammation e.g. pleurisy due to pneumonia
PE
Aortic distension
GI causes such as gastro-oesophageal reflux
Musculoskeletal injury
How might an MI show up on an ECG?

Why is a 12 lead ECG used?
Looks at all areas of heart as sometimes with MIs only one small area is affected
