Specifies an adaptive behavior
Must be realistic, achievable
Written in measurable, behavioral terms

Long-term outcomes—require follow-up after discharge

Nursing care plans
-Often standardized (clinical pathways, critical pathways)
-Goal: Expedite treatment activities to achieve outcomes in a cost-effective manner
