What is the Hierarchy of Psychology?

What it the responsibility of National Board PsyBA in Psychology Governance?
- Mainly to protect the public and ensure quality of service provision
- Registrations/De-registration
- Develops standards of practise
- Assess overseas registration
- Approves study accreditation
It is made up of 12 appointed members
What are the levels of registration?
- General registration, where you can get ‘endorsements’ to specialise with masters and supervised experience
- Provisional (4-5 years study)
- Non-practising, meet requirements, haven’t practised for 10 years
What are the three routes to for registration? and else must you do after completion to maintain registration?
- Accredited Masters/PhD
- Masters/Supervision (5+1)
- Suitable qualification (mainly overseas)
And the completion of the National Psychology Exam
You have to complete CPD (continuing professional development) 30 hours of activities, and 10 of these must be peer supervision.
What body is responsible for accreditation, and how?
Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), by providing programs of study for the psychology profession.
What are the principles of psychology?
- Respect: for everyone
- Integrity: Good Character and Trust
- Propriety: Do go, don’t do evil - beneficence and non-maleficence
How do complaint by the public go?
You can complain to any of the following:
- AHPRA, pass it down to PsyBA, then to the relevent regional board. who pass these onto:
- Psychology council of NSW, who work together with:
- NSW health care complaints commission
What Groups are responsible for the protection of psychologists?
Groups such as the APS (Australian Psychological Society), which has branches, colleges and interest groups within it.
There are many similar groups also.
