How do psychologist act competently?
By using evidence-based research.
What is evidence-based research? What what 3 things should it integrate?
Best, research-proven assessments and treatments. The aim is to maximise benefits and minimise the risk of harm.
- Best research evidence: basic research lab based interventions, and clinical trials.
- Clinical Expertise: using professional competencies and behaviour for positive therapy (reflection, awareness of self, conducting assessments and treatment plans)
- Client Characteristics, Culture, and Preferences: client-centred approaches, understanding status, readiness, level of social support, and other factors.
How do psychologist act according to the Law? what are some of the Laws?
By acting within the framework of the law.

How do psychologist act with Ethics? and what are the ethics?
Complying with the 5 universal ethics (BANJV) and 3 general principles (RIP)
What are Ethics?
Rules and behaviour that focuses on human-welling. They are the highest priority.
What are Normative Ethics and Ethical Principles (Five Universal Principles)?
Normative: Study of ethical action, what should or should not be done.
The universal principles are: 1. Autonomy: Respect of their own life
- Beneficence: Well-being of society
- Non-maleficence: Do not harm
- Justice: Fairness, equality
- Veracity: Accuracy, Openess and Truthfulness
What is the APS Code of Ethics General Principles?
- Respect for the rights and dignity of people and people (informed consent, justice, privacy)
- Propriety (competence, record keeping, professional behaviour)
- Integrity (reputable behaviour, communication)
What is the purpose of ethics, isn’t it just common sense?
Ethical Analysis provides safety for psychology consumers and the integrity of the profession. Avoiding knee-jerk decision by learning a procedural method to document, reflect and consult.
What are three aspects of professional competence?
Knowledge (Know what you know), Skill (know what yourself), and Ethics (reflect on how you go about using knowledge and skills)
