Week 2 - Aus Curr, NOS, SHE Flashcards
What is the 5E’s model?
Theoretical of teaching and learning science (inquiry based)
Traditional ways of teaching is when students listen to teacher talk
Post humanistic is the interconnections
Links between things
Artificial intelligence
What is the role of Australian curriculum science?
What to teach not how you would teach it
What is the aims of the ACS?
To provide students with a solid foundation in science knowledge, understanding skills and values
How is the ACS Split up?
Science understanding
Not just learning facts
Science inquiry skills
How does science work- what a scientist does
Science as a human endeavour
Applying science knowledge to everyday life
What is science as a human endeavour?
Part of the ACS
Observing through senses
asking questions and describing
taking care of the environment
making predictions and describing patterns and relationships
Understanding the effects of actions
What is the Nature of science? (NOS)
Students to critically reflect on science as a way of thinking about the world - history of science
Overarching features of science
How it works, where it comes from and what is good/bad about it
What is a fair test?
When performing an experiment with the scientific method, we have to be able to support the claim using the right procedures
What is a variable? And what types of variables are there?
they are Factors
Independent (change)
Dependent (measure)
Controlled (everything else stays the same)
What is cows moo softly?
Mnemonic to remind students how to plan a fair test
Cows: change - change one thing (independent variable)
Moo: measure/observe - observe another thing (dependent variable)
Softly: same - keep all other things the same (controlled variables)
What is the sequence of a fair test?
Research question
Initial hypothesis
Experiment
Evidence/data (chart or graph)
Statement that summarises observations
Final hypothesis
What is final hypothesis
Combines observational summary (what you actually saw) with inferences (what you think happened)
What is evidence?
Chart
Graphs
Pictures
What you see with your senses
