Week 2 Flashcards
(18 cards)
Safety guidelines to help protect individuals from accidents and injury
People
Hardware and software tools that help to protect equipment from damage
Data/Equip
Guidelines designed to protect the environment from contamination caused by improperly discarded materials.
Environment
Safe working conditions help prevent injury to people A safe workspace is clean, organized, and properly lit. Everyone must understand and follow safety procedures.
General Safety
Remove your watch and jewelry and secure loose clothing. Turn off the power and unplug equipment before performing service. Cover sharp edges inside the computer case with tape. Never open a power supply or a monitor with a built-in power supply. Do not touch areas in printers that are hot or that use high voltage. Know where the fire extinguisher is located and how to use it. Keep food and drinks out of your workspace. Keep your workspace clean and free of clutter. Bend your knees when lifting heavy objects to avoid injuring your back.\
General Safety
What are the Electrical Safety
- Never go near the person until you are sure that he or she is no longer in contact with the power source.
- Turn off the power at its source and be aware of any life threatening conditions.
- Call the local emergency number.
- Be aware that electrocution can cause cardiac and respiratory emergencies.
- Care for shock and thermal burns.
- Look for entry and exit wounds and give appropriate care.
- Remember that anyone suffering from electric shock requires advanced medical attention.
What are the Fire Safety
- Check the scene for safety
- Stop the burning by removing the victim from the source of the burns
- Check for the life threatning condition
- Cool the burn with large amount of cold running water
- Cover the burn loosely with the Non-fibrous, non-sticky sterile dressing
- Prevent infection
- Apply triple antibiotic ointment. If the person is no known allergies or sensitivities to the medication
- Take steps to minimize shock
- Comfort and reassure the victim
can occur when there is a buildup of an electric charge (static electricity) that exists on a surface which comes into contact with another, differently charged surface.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
can damage sensitive components like disk drives and solid state drives.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
can cause malfunctions or destroy the internal circuits of electronic devices.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
can slow production, negatively affect product quality, and create safety issues
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
An antistatic wrist strap, or ground bracelet is an antistatic device used to safely ground a person working on very sensitive electronic equipment, to prevent the buildup of static electricity on their body, which can result in ESD Anti-static bags are used in the packaging when transporting and storing physical non-electrical parts used in electronics, such as hard rives, motherboards, chips and other electrical components sensitive to damage from static electricity. Parts must be placed inside the bag to be protected from static electricity.
ESD Wrist Strap
is the intrusion of outside electromagnetic signals in a transmission media, such as copper cabling. In a network environment, EMI distorts the signals so that the receiving devices have difficulty interpreting them.
Electro Magnetic Interference
is a disturbance that can affect the performance of electrical equipment and electronics. It can be caused by both natural and human-made sources. Lightning, Solar storms, Solar flares, Cosmic radiation, Static noise, Ignition systems, Cellular networks, and Power electronic converters
Electro Magnetic Interference
Helps protect against damage from surges and spikes. A surge suppressor diverts extra electrical voltage that is on the line to the ground.
Surge Support
provides a consistent quality of power when brownouts and blackouts occur. Many ______ devices can communicate directly with the computer operating system. This communication allows the _____ to safely shut down the computer and save data prior to the ____ losing all battery power.
Uniinterruptible PS (UPS)
Helps protect against potential electrical power problems by providing a backup battery to supply power when the incoming voltage drops below the normal level. When the voltage decreases, the battery provides DC power to a power inverter, which converts it to AC power for the computer.
Standby Power Supply
is a fact sheet that summarizes information about material identification, including hazardous ingredients that can affect personal health, fire hazards, and first-aid requirements. The SDS contains chemical reactivity and incompatibility information. It also includes protective measures for the safe handling and storage of materials and spill, leak, and disposal procedures.
