Week 2 Flashcards
EMR
Electronic Medical Record
The digital version of paper health record
Single healthcare organization
EHR
Electronic Health Record
All the existing information about a patient in a
shared database
Can be accessed across multiple healthcare organization
Personal Computer
Examples
A single-user electronic data processing device, personal computers can also be mobile computers.
Desktop, Laptop Tablets, Pc etc
Input
An input device is any peripheral hardware that allows the user to provide data to the computer.
Common input devices include keyboards, mice and other pointing devices, touchscreens, webcams, cameras, microphones, scanners, and signature pads.
Output
The data entered into the computer is then processed by it. The processed data is displayed using output devices. Common output devices in the healthcare setting include monitors, printers, and speakers.
Data Backup
Is a process in which the network files are copied using an external hard drive, a server, or an online backup system. To protect the data from a disaster in the medical facility, it is important to store the backup files offsite.
Practice Management Software
Practice management software is used for scheduling appointments, new patient registration, billing, coding, and managing finances. (SimChart)
Firewall
A program or hardware device that acts as a barrier or filter between the network and the internet. Data coming from the internet must pass through the firewall. Data that do not meet the firewall criteria are not allowed into the network.
Network
A group of interconnected computers
Encrypted Data
Software used to encode or change the information into nonreadable or encrypted data (also called cipher text), thus preventing unauthorized users from reading the information. An authorized user must enter a password for decryption (dee KRIP shun) to occur and make the text readable again.
Security Risk Analysis
Potential computer network breach threats are identified, the likelihood of occurrence of those threats is determined, and additional safeguards are implemented. The facility should have a plan of action in place in case a threat occurs.
Audit trail
Record of computer activity used to monitor users’ actions within software, including additions, deletions, and viewing of electronic records.
LAN
The local area network can span one building or multiple buildings. Some healthcare agencies have multiple locations over a large area.
WAN
They may use wide area network (WAN) technology, which consists of two or more LANs. LAN and WAN technology can use telephone lines or fiberoptic cables that increase the speed of transmission.
Spreadsheet Software
Used to manage numbers, data, and expenses. Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets are examples.
Redundancy
Individuals use the Internet to send computer files to the service companies’ servers. Files are copied onto many servers in various locations. It allows the information to be accessible even if one server goes down and needs repairs.
Authentication
Each employee with network access must log in using a unique password. The security officer should be able to see the employee’s activity in the network and individual software.
Safer Guides
Focus on practices and policies to during EHR downtime.
NP (New Patient) information sheet is also known as
Demographic sheet or Registration Form
This contains subjective information such as insurance
It’s updated every time you go into the facility or annually
Medical History Form is also known as
Health history questionnaire
Progress Notes
Is running a log or documentation of the patient’s progress of every encounter with them or lack thereof it
Fax protocols
Aby by HIPAA and HITECH laws
Full block letter format
Most common type of business letter
C: Allice Adams, md.
This example means what?
It tell the receiver that this person (Allice) also got a copy of the letter
