What does David Brooks write about the relationship between pathos (level 1) and logos (level 2) and preaching deductive sermons?
Level 2 (logos) has to go through Level 1 (pathos) in order to make decision. This is the reason we will never change lives if we preach primarily deductive sermons.

Personal piety. Who we are in the presence of God.
What is sacramental authority?
The duties expected to be perform in recognition of one representing God.
What activities commonly accompany sacramental authority?
preaching, conducting weddings and funerals, performing baptisms, exercising community leadership, etc.
What are some ways ministers acquire certified competence?
- Liturgical clothing
- Earning seminary degree/certificate
- Doctrinal position
- Recommendations
