Week 2 Flashcards
What are the four components of population health?
population, health, society shared health concerns, and vulnerable groups
Define epidemiology:
is a study of distribution and determinants of health related states or event in specified populations, and the application of this study to the control of health problems
Define the three levels of prevention:
Primary prevention: reduction of risk factors before occurrence of disease, condition or injury
Secondary prevention: Early detection of the potential for development of a disease or condition, or the existence of a disease while asymptomatic
Tertiary prevention: Treatment of an existing symptomatic disease process to ameliorate its effects, or delay or prevent its progress
People that have the disease ( restore their health) or to reduce suffering
What is the difference between high risk vs at risk approach?
High Risk Approach addresses “immediate” cause, work with those at greater risk whereas, at risk approach: address “root cause” of disease in population, work with whole population
Measuring disease-prevalence vs incidence
Prevalence: # of people who currently have a condition
Incidence: # of new cases/diagnosed
