-Entry of National Public Health Care Plan (federal)
-gave grants/money to build hospitals, hire doctors & HC professionals

-provinces worked with feds to identify specific diagnostic services

-care outside hospital NOT covered
Medical Care Act
-care provided by doctors outside of hospital is covered
-Province/Feds worked together
-Province receives reimbursements from the government (50/50 split)
Established Programs Financing Act
-how province/feds worked together changed
-Government gives provinces a block sum (different for each province)
Canada Health Act
-replace ALL previous acts
-one national plan (medicare)
-13 insurance plans (ex. OHIP)
-each province decides whether to cover supplementary benefits (ex. drug/dental)
What does the Canada Health Act do?
-ensures all residents have access to necessary hospital/physician services on a prepaid basis
-protect, promote, and restore the physical/mental wellbeing WITHOUT financial/other barriers
-basis of NEED, rather than the ability to pay
