What questions should be asked when writing a thesis
- Do I answer the question?
- Have I taken a position that can be challenged?
- Is my thesis specific?
- Does my thesis pass the “so what?’ test?
- Does my thesis wander?
- Does my thesis pass the HOW + WHY test?
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY – COMMON ISSUES
- Citing (e.g., formatting issues, missing citations, inconsistent formatting in reference page, using APA, etc.)
- Issues with topics (e.g., too broad, not sociological, connection between theory and social issue unclear)
- Sources not peer-reviewed (e.g., encyclopedia entries, dissertations, masters theses, introductions to special issues, etc.)
- Using medicalized research
- Not reading instructions carefully! (e.g., separate reference page)
