Racism hierarchy

Ideological racism defintion
Racism that exists as a socio-cultural dimension in society
- cultural values, behaviours, communication patterns that advance the dominant group
- decide the dominant group
- seen as universal, as they benifit the dominant group, but harm the minority
Where does ideological racism come from?
Unconscious biases come from specific cultural practices and beliefs
Examples of ideological racism
- perpetuating racism through norms, values, ideologies
- neoliberalism and normative racism
- referring to culture and values
- “appropriate clothing”
- language
- nuclear family
- othering
Neoliberalism
Political approach that favors the free market capitalism, deregulation, reducing govt spending
Normative racism
Blames racial minorities for the oppression and discrimination they face bc of their values and notions how they “ought to be”

- crossing the street when seeing black person
- doesnt affect all members of minority groups the same way

- race doesnt explain the wealth/job gap, its due to class
