Week 12 (Analysis of Training and Manip) Flashcards
Interventions to improve upper limb motor recovery after stroke
- Constraint induced movement
- Repetitive task-specific training (incl. part-practise)
- Mechanically assisted training
Additional interventions - Mental practise
- Mirror therapy
- Bilateral training
- EMG biofeedback
- Electrical stimulation
CIMT involves
Constraining the intact arm and the patient does everything with their affected arm. It has a powerful effect on neuro plasticity. Prescribe so they perform to try at home in their their ADLs.
Who benefits from using CIMT
Those 3-9 months after stroke
Robotics involves
Moving an arm forward on a friction free surface and getting feedback on the screen. Moving a tiny amount gives a lot of feedback.
Advantages of robotics
Makes things easy to move
Can graduate assistance in what you are doing
GRASP program
An arm and hand exercise program developed for stroke patients with upper extremity impairments. Pre-made exercises and benefits from the program are maintained 5 months later.
PUSH program
Videos for each exercise
What exercise to give someone who uses their intact arm for all reaching and manip tasks
Train reaching and manip using CIMT to encourage use of affected upper limb
What exercise to give someone who lacks wrist extension, especially in combination with radial deviation during reaching
Train wrist extension with radial deviation in preparation for reaching and manip
What exercise to give someone who is unable to release a cup without extending their fingers and tends to knock objects over during manipulation activities
Train flexion and extension of MCP joints with IP joints in some flexion in prep for grasping and releasing objects
What exercise to give someone who is unable to complete pad to pad opposition of thumb and fingers, unable to “cup” the hand to grasp an object
Train conjunct rotation of the thumb and little finger in preparation for manipulating
What exercise to give someone who is unable to cup the hand to grasp an object
Train thumb and little finger opposition in preparation for manipulating objects
What exercise to give someone who lacks the ability to use their fingers independently
Train individual finger movements in preparation for manipulating objects
What exercise to give someone who is unable to control their fingers to release an object and tends to drop objets
Train regulation of flexor force in preparation for manipulating objects
