A
  • grandfather, acrisius, king of argos, is told by oracle that his grandson will kill him
  • he locks his daughter, danae, but Zeus sleeps with her and she gives birth to perseus. They’re thrown out in a chest to sea
  • saved by fisherman and taken to seriphos (cycladic island)
  • king of island, polydectes, wants danae, demands the head of gorgon to perseus (impossible task)
  • he kills Medusa thanks to athena’s help, asks graeae for location and given godly items (cap of invisibility, winged sandals, pouch, sword and shield)
  • 3 sisters, two immortal, one not. Medusa is beheaded and her children with poseidon shoots out
  • he succeeds!
