Central Tenets of Theory?
1.All problems have exceptions
2.Person is separate from problem
3.The person is not problem, the problem is the problem.
Techniques?
1.Listen to problem without getting stuck.
2.Investigate how problem has been disrupting(扰乱) the client.
How Symptoms Develop?
1.When client are struggle to look for exceptions.
2.When client are pressured to follow social norms.
3.When client unable to see problem separated from them.
Goal of therapy?
- Deconstruct(解剖/解析) problem-saturated stories co-create new stories.
- To help clients to externalise
o Problem separate from the person
o Recognise when clients were successful in dealing with the problem
Role of Therapist?
- Listen to problem-saturated story of client without getting stuck.
- Listen to client with open mind.
- Encourage client to share their stories.
- Therapist demonstrate respectful curiosity and persistence.
Conditions Necessary for Change?
- Clients must be okay with the “not-knowing” stance of the therapist.
- Collaborative relationship must be built.
Ways of Interventions?
Deconstruction xx, Renaming xx, Perspective xx, Open space questions.

Addressing Diversity?(解决多样性问题)
- May be challenging for clients who value social norms and traditional values.
- May be challenging for clients who wants a more assertive(confident) and “knowing” therapist especially clients from hierarchical cultures.
