What does the frontal lobe consist of?
Primary motor cortex
-Movement control
Premotor areas
-Planning/guidance of movement
-Executive control
-Attention
-Working memory
-Top-down control
What is the prefrontal cortex?
-Most anterior portion of the frontal lobe
-Essential role in the organisation and control of goal-directed thought and behaviour.
Prefrontal lesions
-Persistent strange apathy, broken by bouts of euphoria
-Ordinary social conventions are readily cast aside by impulsive behaviour
-Forgetfulness in tasks requiring sustained attention
-No major change in standard IQ tests.
What are the executive functions
-Inhibition
-Updating/Working memory
-Shifting/Cognitive flexibility
