Ethos, Pathos, and Logos -- and Mark Twain
A rhetorical device consisting of an appeal to the speaker’s authority or credibility, making the audience more likely to trust them. For example, a famous person might be used to sell a product, even if they don’t have expertise in the product.
ethos
A rhetorical device consisting of an appeal to the audience’s emotions, trying to make the audience feel angry, sympathetic, or some other emotion. This can be done by using vivid language, metaphors, or personal stories.
pathos
A rhetorical device consisting of an appeal to the audience’s reason, building up logical arguments. This can be done by using facts and statistics, and making clear, logical connections between ideas.
logos
