Week 10 - Implicit and explicit learning Flashcards
What is implicit learning
Acquisition of skills and/or knowledge without awareness
What is explicit learning
acquisition of skills and/or knowledge actively and with awareness
Implicit learning:
What is dual task
Commonly used to assess the ‘attention’ required for a task. Dual task paradigm is to perform two tasks at the same time and measure inteference between the tasks.
Implicit learning:
What is ‘errorless’ learning
No such thing as errorless learning but you can decrease errors
Implicit learning:
What is analogy learning
Learners are given an analogy to teach how a movement is done (metaphor)
For example: shooting a basketball ‘shoot as if you are trying to put cookies into a cookie jar on a high shelf’
Doesn’t overly work.
What are the advantages of Implicit learning
More durable, resistant to pressure and can be done at the same time as other tasks.
What are the disadvantages of implicit learning?
Early stages of learning take longer
Questions about modifying implicit learning (not complete)
Transfer not as effective
How to transmit learn?
