What is Burnout
A state of exhaustion in which one is cynical about the value of one’s occupation and doubtful of one’s capacity to perform.
What is emotional exhaustion?
Feelings of being emotionally drained by one’s work.
What is cynicism?
Negative or excessively detached response to the work itself and/or the individual with whom employee’s interact while performing their job.
What is lack of personal accomplishment/inefficacy?
A decline in one’s feelings of competence and of successful achievement at work.

What the two long-lasting consequences of burnout?

Consequences of burnout: job performance
- withdrawal behaviours - lateness, absense, quitting.
- requiring extra time and effort to perform job.
- increased demands on other staff.

- anxiety, depression
- sleep disturbance
- memory impairment
- neck pain, headaches, respiratory infections
- type 2 diabetes.
