What is the level of reliability in the diagnosis of BDP and MDD?
BDP I is more reliable than BDP II, and both are more reliable than MDD.
Reason: manic episodes are a strong symptom in BDP I characterization and diagnosis.
Describe onset, lifetime risk, and severity of BDP
Merikangas 2007
- Onset at younger age, before 25 years of age.
- Lifetime risk for BDP I is 1%
- Lifetime risk for BDP II is 1.1%
- Lifetime risk for subthreshold depression is 2.4%
- Severe episodes over 12 months: BDP I is 75% |BDP II is 69%
- Comorbidities: 75% of BDP have psychiatric comorbidities
Age of onset for BDP
More common and less common
0-10 very low.
