week 1- nervous system development Flashcards
what area of the brain expands dramatically into a “C” shape
telencephalon this causes the lateral sulcus which separates the frontal from the temporal lobe
Resulting adult tissue from the -proencephalon -mesencephalon -rhomb encephalon
Pro: cerebral cortex, basal ganglia hypothalamus and thalamus Mes: midbrain Rhomb: pons, cerebellum, medulla

what is the motor and somatosensory homunculus and what is the order of their connections
motor- in precentral gyrus of the frontal
UMN (motor cortex) –>LMN (brainstem) –> contralateral skeletal muscle
somatosensory- in the postcentral gyrus of the parietal
1 neuron (periphery) –> 2nd neuron (ipsilateral) –> thalamus (contralateral) –> 3rd neuron (in thalamus also) –> contralateral somatosensory cortex
