Week 1- Concepts Of Physical Activity And Exercise Flashcards
Physical activity
Describes the muscular work performed in the maintenance of posture, activities of daily living, walking and for occupational leisure and sporting activities
Sedentary behaviour
Refers to any behaviour characterised by energy expenditure less than or equal to 1.5 METS while in a sitting, reclining or lying posture
Physical fitness
A set of physiological attributes which people have or achieve that relate to the ability to perform physical activities. The capacity of the cardiorespiratory and skeletal muscle are at the centre of the fitness concept
Cardiorespiratory fitness
Conferred by the capacity of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen and skeletal muscle to utilise oxygen
Muscle strength
The maximum magnitude of force (amount)
Muscle explosive power
The maximum rate of the work
Fatigue
Reduced ability to perform physical activity. Decline i muscle tension with repeated stimulation
Exhaustion
Losing the ability to perform physical activity
What happens to muscle mass with age?
Less muscle mass. More infiltration of material which won’t help with muscle contraction
Weaker bones
Training can help address these factors
