Week 1 Anatomy - 4 categories of cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are the four broad categories of cells?
A
- Neurons
- Muscles
- Epithelia
- Connective tissue (support cells)
2
Q
What are the types of muscle cells and the function/ organ and systems
A
- Smooth, skeletal and cardiac
- Function: to contract and generate force and movement
- Organ/systems: voluntary skeletal muscles, cardia muscles, smooth muscles (bladder, bv)
3
Q
What are the sides of the epithelium and their function and organ/systens?
A
- surface side of cells (apical membrane)
- blood side of cells (basolateral membrane)
- Function: Acts as a protective barrier for organs and regulates movement of substances
- Organ/systems: skin, lining of body systems, kidney, stomach
4
Q
Classify epithelial tissue by shape and arrangement
A
Shape: squamous, cubodial, columnar
Arrangement: simple, stratified, pseudostratified
5
Q
What are types of connective tissues and supports cells and what are their function and organs/systems?
A
- Blood cells and bone cells
- support, stability, connectivity
- bone, cartilage, skin, fat, blood
