How the mind allows an organism to adapt to its environment. The role of conscious in guiding peoples ability to make decisions and solve problems.

John B Watson and B F Skinner
Study observable behaviour and explain behaviour through learning principles. Reward and punishment shape maintain and change behaviour.
Describe the Biological approach?
behaviours and behavioural disorders are seen as a result of physical processes (hormones, other chemicals, genetics).
Describe the evolutionary approach?
emphasises the ways in which behaviours are adaptable for survival.
Describe the Psycho dynamic approach?
Freud- the interplay of the unconscious mental processes in determining human thought, feelings, and behaviour in the present.
Describe the behavioural approach?
Behaviour is determined by what we learn (especially rewards and punishment) (i.e. Aggression= mirroring or verbal stimulus).
Describe the Cognitive approach?
How we take in, mentally represent and store information, perceive and process information and how these cognitive processes affect behaviour. Focus is on mental steps and leaps and recall to explain behaviour.
Describe the Humanistic approach?
Client centred with active listening. Positive psychology based. This approach normally assumes people are mostly good with the potential to reach highest potential.
