presentation of adjustment disorder
- Depressed mood, anxiety, conduct disturbance
- must arise within 3 months of a stressor and must be clinically significant.
5 subtypes of adjustment disorder
· –Depressed mood: low mood, tearfulness; hopelessness
· Anxiety: nervousness, worry, jitteriness
· Mixed anxiety and depressed mood: combo of depressed/anxiety
· Disturbance of conduct: disturbance of conduct
· Mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct: both emotional sx and a disturbance of conduct
Unspecified: not classified as one of them
symptoms of adjustment disorder
1) marked distress that is out of proportion to the severity/intensity of stressor
2) significant impairment in social, occupation, or other important areas of functioning.

medical history, physical exam, lab studies, patient education, plan
Normal vital sign ranges for average adult
o BP: 90/60 mmHg to 120/80 mmHg
o Breathing: 12-18 breaths/min
o Pulse: 60-100 beats/min
o Temp: 97.8-99.1°F
BMI ranges
- < 18.5 : Underweight
- 18.5 – 24.9: Healthy
- 25.0 – 29.9: overweight
- 30.0 – 39.9:Obese
- > 40: Extreme or high risk obesity
effect of stress on cortisol release
- Necessary at low physiological levels to facilitate learning and memory and actually stimulates the functioning of the hippocampus
- With chronic levels of elevated cortisol, it will display an adverse effect on the hippocampus and therefore will affect memory formation and memory recall
