5 subtypes of adjustment disorder

A

· –Depressed mood: low mood, tearfulness; hopelessness
· Anxiety: nervousness, worry, jitteriness
· Mixed anxiety and depressed mood: combo of depressed/anxiety
· Disturbance of conduct: disturbance of conduct
· Mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct: both emotional sx and a disturbance of conduct
Unspecified: not classified as one of them

effect of stress on cortisol release

A
  • Necessary at low physiological levels to facilitate learning and memory and actually stimulates the functioning of the hippocampus
  • With chronic levels of elevated cortisol, it will display an adverse effect on the hippocampus and therefore will affect memory formation and memory recall
