Define what an occupation is
Activities and tasks of everyday lives, given value and meaning by the individual doing them, non-repeatable experience and a unique context thus personally constructed.
Define what an activity is
More general culturally shared idea about a category of action, not experienced by specific person and not observed as an occurrence. Hence not located in a temporal, spatial context. One a person does an activity, it becomes an occupation because it now has meaning to that person.
Why is the difference between activity and occupation important?
OT’s start with what’s important to you, first activity analysis and then occupational analysis, need to know the difference to understand the process.
