Week 1+2 : RMB Flashcards
What is a dataset?
A collection of data
What are the types of variables?
Nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio
What are continuous variables?
variables such as temperature which can change freely to take any value
What are discrete variables?
A variable that takes one variable
What is a hypothesis?
A testable prediction
What is a test statistic?
A value that quantifies how close the data is to the null hypothesis
What is a p value?
The probability that a particular test statistic could occur
What tests do we run on a normal distribution?
parametric
What test can we test for a normal distribution?
Shapiro Wilk
What can we use histograms for?
To represent the distribution of data samples
What is the SEM?
Standard error of the mean
How do you calculate the SEM?
SD / square root of N
How do you calculate the SD?
Sum of the squared difference of the mean and data points / divided by the total number of data points
Why are large samples more reliable?
SEM is decreased as the sample gets bigger
What is the 95% confidence interval?
To communicate how reliable the estimate of the mean is likely to be
