Defined territory with an goverment which has the monopoly of violence ackknowledged by other states.
Nation
a group of people that share the same culture. Multiple nations can exist within the same state
Sovereignty
Has to be legitimised by something elections or absolute power for it to be recognized
Non intervention
states do not intervene with each other
Hegemony
Centre of power, option to dictate the rules
Balance of power
collaboration of states to dominate a different state
Collective security
Nato, when one state is attacked others must help
Triple Alliance + Triple Entente
Two alliances Pre WW1, heightened tension, contributed to it’s outbreak
Triple allaince: Prussia, austria- hungary and Italy
Triple Entente: UK, France and Russia
League of nations
1920 after WW1 to promote peace and cooperation between countries

An US policy pledged to support countries resisting communism

American iniative after WW2 to save it’s economy
