What is Future Me?
A career plan that opens the opportunity to think about our time in university differently, specifically creating our own unique development plan that keeps track of our experiences and what we have learned.
Why use Future Me?
It’s four-stage structure can help you keep track of your development and experiences as well as repeat the cycle with other experiences.
What are the four stages of Future Me?
1) Map - plan what I want to achieve.
2) Experience - try new things and challenge yourself.
3) Reflect - consider how your experiences changed your thinking.
4) Share - curate and share your story with others.
What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the incorporation of substantial material into your work that has been derived from another person’s published or unpublished work. This content is incorporated word for word.
What is academic reading?
This is reading that goes further than merely reading the text - it involves interacting with the text, making annotations and connections, questioning the text, and applying it to your thoughts and experiences.
What are some characteristics of academic reading?
- Purposeful/Intentional - finding answers.
- Fragmented - reading specific sections.
- Non-linear - may begin later in the text.
- Time-pressured - deadline.
- Relevant - concepts associated with the research question.
- Skim & Scan - quick overview before rereading relevant sections.
- Contextual - relevance to other related texts.
- Active - underline, highlight, hyperlink.
