Weathering/Erosion/Deposition Flashcards
Weathering Definition
The process of rocks breaking down into smaller pieces
Erosion Definition
The movement of weathered material from one place to another. Basically, fragments of rock being carried everywhere.
Deposition Definition
Deposition is the sediment that’s been moved - eroded.
Physical vs Chemical Weathering
Physical Weathering - Where rocks are mechanically broken down
Chemical Weathering - Where rocks are chemically broken down
Physical Weathering can happen due to… (try to name at least two)
Temperature Changes
Action of Water/Ice
Action of Wind
Action of Plants
Name an example of Chemical Weathering
Acid Rain - acid rain can react with marble or limestone.
Oxygen Exposure - rocks can react with oxygen, causing rust.
