Weather vs. climate (slide 2) Flashcards
CHANGE
Weather
is the atmospheric conditions (such as
temperature, precipitation, wind and humidity)
in a particular location over a short period of
time – an hour, a day, or even a week.
We describe weather with terms
like:
Temperature
Type and amount of precipitation
Presence of fog, mist, or cloud cover
Relative humidity
Atmospheric pressure
Wind speed
high pressure
sunny days
low pressure
cold days
High plus low
thunderstorms
Climate
Describes the usual pattern (the average) of the
weather in a region over a long period of time (usually
30 years)
The climate of a region determines
the types of plants and animals that
live there
Factors affecting climate:
Distance from equator (latitude)
Presence of large bodies of water
Presence of ocean and air currents
Land formations
Height above sea level (altitude)
dudes playing pokemon like hina
Because of the Sun’s energy, latitude
affects the climate of different regions
A bioclimate profile is a series of
graphs that show temperature and
moisture conditions at a given
location.
They can display the location’s
projected climate
40 to 80 years into
the future.
